The  Victoria Falls Hotel

The Victoria Falls Hotel is one of the world’s Classic luxury hotels which commands prime location overlooking Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

An acclaimed Natural Wonder of the World.   A proud member of Leading Hotels of the World; the Edwardian-style hotel; built in 1904, was redecorated in 2013 – to combine its traditional majesty with modern sophistication.   For more than 110 years The Victoria Falls Hotel has been a luxury icon in Africa.

Echoing its glorious pedigree since 1904; The Victoria Falls Hotel features 161 rooms as well as suites.  Truly, a five-star experience of pure grandeur.   Style, glamour as well as sophistication are hallmarks of the Executive Suites; which have luxurious warm, inviting décor.

A Cape-to-Cairo vision was the beginning. With dramatic views of the gorges of Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls; The Victoria Falls Hotel, built by the British in 1904; was originally conceived as accommodation for workers on the Cape-to-Cairo railway.  Today it is a famous luxury brand.  Now a member of The Leading Hotels Of The World.  Serene Lily ponds, arched loggias, as well as broad verandas – offering magnificent vistas – seem custom-built for a spot of high tea or a relaxed gin and tonic.  A private path leads to the falls; an idyllic 10-minute walk away.  Some rooms offer stunning views of the gorges, as well as bridge below.

The history of The Victoria Falls Hotel is incomplete without the reference to the development of the railway system in Zimbabwe.

Cecil Rhodes had tasked his friend as well as colleague, Sir Charles Metcalfe, with overseeing the development of the railway system.  Metcalfe took heed of Rhodes’ dreams of the railway line;  stretching “from Cape to Cairo”.

Metcalfe started plans for the first bridge across the mighty Zambezi. Rhodes was insistent that the bridge should be built in a place, so that the spray from the mighty Falls, would fall on the passing trains.  This is why the site was chosen, just a little below the Boiling Pot, at almost right angles as well as being very close to the falls.
