Umlani Bushcamp

Umlani was founded in 1989 by Marco and Marie-Louise Schiess in the central section of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. In 1993, the fences between the Timbavati and the Kruger were removed to allow for wildlife migration and this pristine wilderness area became known as the Greater Kruger National Park.

Marco and Marie-Louise's wish was to encapsulate their vision of a true African adventure in the very spirit and experience of the camp itself. They wanted the camp to blend in with the environment and as a result, the entire bush camp is built from natural materials in a traditional African style.

Children

Children aged 6 to 15 years pay 50% of the adult rate at Thornybush Game Lodge
Children under the age of 6 are not permitted on game drive (unless private vehicle is booked, subject to availability)

Camp Activities

Umlani is renowned for our outstanding rangers and trackers, who will not only find you the game, but will also introduce you to the wealth of flora, fauna, bird life and cultural heritage of the region.

We advise you plan carefully so you do not miss out on the Umlani game drives and bush walks, but rather take part in these out side activities upon arriving or leaving Umlani, or if your stay is longer than three nights.

Birding

With 13 varied habitats, the Kruger National Park is home to one of the largest concentrations of birdlife and game species in Africa. Birding in this area, which includes the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve and Umlani, is just spectacular and a major draw card for all eco-tourists as it is reputed as being the finest birding location in Southern Africa. There are over 500 species in the Greater Kruger National Park including numerous large raptor species.
