Zell Am See, Skiing Austria:  This resort is in the centre of the Austrian Alps, between the Schmitten and Kitzsteinhorn mountains.  It is approximately 60 km south of the city of Salzburg and 150 km south-east of Munich. Zell am See is world renowned, as part of the Europa-Sport region for the excellent skiing it presents.  With a top station of 2000m in Zell am See, as well as 3029m on the Glacier, one is assured of best high altitude skiing.  The resort caters for the needs of beginners as well as advanced alike.

Zell am See, with its lake and medieval pedestrian centre, is undoubtedly one of the most attractive villages in Austria.

Country customs, winter walks across the frozen lakes, as well as skiing form some of the best sight-seeing in Austria. These are some of the highlights of Zell am See. Together, the Schmittenhohe Mountain and the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, offer over 136 kilometres of ski slopes on a network of 55 lifts. You will be able to sample the local cuisine to your hearts content.  Or just relax with a warm cup of Gluhwein, should your ski legs need a break. For those advanced skiers who do not need the rest why not try one of the numerous off-piste trails before heading for the Après ski pubs?

Zell am See Ski Resort Information:

Like St Moritz, Zell is a town beside a lake (frozen if you’re lucky).  The similarities end there; but Zell is a towny resort, this also makes a refreshing change from the Austrian norm of rustic, chalet-style villages.

From the skiing point of view, the appeal is greatly strengthened by having an excellent glacier just down the road at Kaprun.   There is also a gondola link with Viehhofen, near Saalbach.
