The Best of Israel Tour
A land of biblical stories, as well as ancient civilisations; Jordan has seen the rise and fall of many rich, powerful empires and was also the setting stage for a number of miracles mentioned in both the Old & New Testaments as well as the Qur’an. Ongoing excavations trace of civilisations dating as far back as prehistoric times. This leads Jordan into being one of the most interesting destinations in the world; Your trip will be one of the most memorable.
Day 1 – Sunday: Arrive
Arrive, meet our representative and transfer to hotel in Tel Aviv for overnight.
Day 2 – Monday: Tel Aviv – Beer Sheba – Masada – Dead Sea
Leave Tel Aviv – via Ashdod, Ashkelon to Beersheba for a short visit to the Negev capital. Continue via Arad to Masada. Ascend by cable car to the fortress; which was the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots; in their war against the Romans. Visit the excavations; Herod’s palaces, the synagogue, bathhouse, etc. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Roman camps; as well as the Dead Sea. Descend for a possible “float” in the in the salty water, of the world’s lowest place. Via Ein Gedi & Kalya, proceed to Jerusalem for overnight.
Day 3 – Tuesday: Jerusalem – sightseeing of the new city
Drive to Mt. Scopus for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. On to the Garden of Gethsemane, as well as Church of the Agony. Continue to Israel Museum Shrine of the Book with the famous Dead Sea scrolls; also visit the beautifully renovated Model of the Herodian city of Jerusalem; dating back to the time of the Second Temple. Continue to Yad Vashem; (the memorial to the six million Jews, who were killed in the Holocaust). Afternoon visit to Ein Karem; (the birthplace of John the Baptist). In the heart of a neighbourhood, in downtown Jerusalem; also visit Mahane Yehuda to experience the flavors, aromas, colours as well as the traders’ dealings with the crowds; at the largest open market in Israel. Return to Hotel.
Day 4 – Wednesday: Jerusalem – (Old City) – Bethlehem
Walk through one of the Gates to the walled Old City: the renewed Jewish Quarter; the Western Wall, the Temple area; the colorful bazaars; Via Dolorosa as well as the Stations of the Cross, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Drive to Mt. Zion; visit the tomb of King David, the Room of the Last Supper and Dormition Abbey. In the afternoon, continue to Bethlehem to also visit the Church of the Nativity; Returning to Jerusalem, for overnight.
Day 5 – Thursday: Beit Shean / Nazareth / Galilee
Leave Jerusalem, driving north via Jericho, the oldest city in the world. Travel through the Jordan Valley, to Beit Shean. Visit the excavations of this beautiful Roman City. Proceed to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation and the carpentry workshop of Joseph. On to Safed, city of the Kabala, for a walk through the mystic alleys, a visit to a synagogue and the artists’ colony. Continue to a Kibbutz hotel for overnight.
Day 6 – Friday: Upper Galilee and Golan Heights – Nazareth
Drive to the Golan Heights, passing by the Druze villages. Visit a former Syrian fortification on the heights. Pass by Banias, source of the Jordan River. Enjoy an Israeli wine country experience, with vineyards surrounded by breathtaking views. Become acquainted with the collection of fine and rare wines enjoying a tour, wine tasting and understanding of the wine making process.
Descending to the shores of the Sea of Galilee, visit the Mount of Beatitudes as well as the ruins of the ancient synagogue; and alsoPeter’s house at Capernaum. Visit Tabgha, where the miracle of the fish and bread took place. Continue to Tiberias for a short tour of the old center of Jewish learning.
Optional: sailing in a boat, across the Sea of Galilee, to experience the tranquility as well as the scenery – little changed during the past 2000 years (subject to conditions and fee). Return to the Kibbutz hotel for overnight.
Day 7 – Saturday: Acre / Haifa / Caesarea Saturday – / Tel Aviv / Jaffa
After Breakfast, drive west to Acre for a visit of the old, famous Crusader stronghold as well as medieval fortifications. Continue to Haifa, for a sightseeing tour of the city; including the Bahai Shrine, Persian Garden, Mount Carmel as well as Haifa Bay. Proceed southwards to Caesarea, to also visit the ancient port, including the Roman Theater as well as the Hippodrome. Continue to Tel Aviv-Jaffa for a short city tour, and to your hotel for overnight.
Day 8 – Sunday: Hussein Bridge or (Allenby Bridge) – Jerash – Amman
Breakfast and transfer to the airport for departure. Site under the Palestinian Authority jurisdiction. Visit subject to situation.
