8 Days Exploring Hanoi & Hoi An

Hanoi to Hoi An – 8 days | Travel between two of Vietnam’s most charming destinations all in just 8 days.

Hanoi to Hoi An – 8 days

Travel between two of Vietnam’s most charming destinations from the fading colonial chic of Hanoi to the riverside merchant town of Hoi An with a night spent cruising the jade waters of Halong Bay and time spent exploring the royal citadel of imperial Hue, all in just 8 days.

Brief day to day Itinerary:

  • 1:  Welcome to Hanoi
  • 2:  UNESCO-listed Halong Bay
  • 3:  Floating Villages and Cyclo Rides
  • 4:  Imperial Citadel of Hue
  • 5:  Charming Hoi An
  • 6:  Rural Life in Vietnam
  • 7:  Hoi An at leisure
  • 8:  Hoi An

Trip Highlights:

  • Hanoi – a cyclo ride through the old quarter with traditional shop fronts
  • Hue – ancient citadel, Imperial Purple City, Royal Tombs, Thien Mu Pagoda and monastery
  • Halong Bay – UNESCO-listed region with thousands of beautiful limestone peaks and islets
  • Hoi An – UNESCO-listed ancient town famed for its beautifully preserved old city and nearby beaches

Shaped like an ‘S’, Vietnam stretches along the east coast of the Indochinese Peninsula. A local metaphor likens it to a long bamboo pole hung with two baskets of rice, represented by the two fertile regions at either end of the country. The Red River Delta and the highlands in the north, known for their magnificent scenery and colourful hill tribes, complement the plains and floating markets of the Mekong Delta in the south.

Local customs:

One should avoid wearing shorts in Vietnam, away from the beaches if possible. Shoes must be removed on entering religious sites and a donation is expected when visiting a temple or pagoda. Photography is restricted at ports, harbours and airports, and it is polite to ask permission before taking photographs of people, especially of ethnic minorities. Never leave chopsticks upright in a bowl of rice.
