Amakhosi, a King’s Pride
Here, time belongs to the rhythm of a timeless African beat and guests also have their own private kingdom.
Amakhosi is a majestic destination where imperial treatment is customary, where no day is the same. From scintillating night safaris to culinary delight, Amakhosi offers an African Safari holiday like no other.
Accommodation in the River suites: Six luxurious river suites capture nature through ceiling-high windows as well as private viewing decks across the river. Each suite accommodates two adults with an air conditioned lounge, bedroom, bathroom with a bath for two, separate shower as well as toilet, safe, bath robes, fully stocked mini-bar and a tea and coffee tray. Built in a shape of a Zulu shield and also decorated in a typical Zulu style with a colourful modern touch, all suites are easily accessible from the main lodge.
Imagine close encounters with newborn cheetah cubs, or being the prime witness to a daring lion fight. Amakhosi guides are well qualified as well as extremely committed to the environment, and look forward to taking you on a journey of discovery where you are at one with your surroundings.
A walking safari brings you closer to the heartbeat of the bush, submitting yourself to the mercy of nature. Knowledgeable guides know exactly where to take their guests for exciting, yet safe encounters with pristine fauna and flora.
Game walks of a different kind. From November to March each year, when the rains come, Amakhosi invites guests to discover the fascinating world of amphibians. Night safaris with qualified guides take you deep into the bush to marvel the spectrum of colours and the loud calling of mating frogs.
A very powerful eagle, the Stephanoaetus coronatus, hunts mainly monkeys and small forest antelope. It kills by severing the vertebrae of its prey or will drive its very long dewclaw through the back of the monkey’s skull. This Crowned Eagle prefers forest areas, but in the Amazulu Private Game Reserve it is also found in riverine forest. The reserve has three breeding pairs.
There is no substitute for getting married in the bush. From the moment the bride and groom arrive, until long after the ceremony, which is in one of the most beautiful areas of the reserve, they are in a dream world fit for a king and his queen. At AmaKhosi, competent staff take care of everything, all you have to do is arrive and say “I do”.
