7 night Reunion Island Experience

Day 1: Arrive from South Africa to Reunion

We welcome you on your arrival and take you to go and pick up your car hire vehicle.
We travel by road to St Denis, the capital of the island.
Check-in at Le Juliette Dodu with dinner at your own expense.
Overnight at Le Juliette Dodu

Day 2: St Denis / Salazie Caldeira / Hell bourg

Check-out after breakfast.
You are now free to follow our instructions to explore this natural wonder.
Our suggestion: Going on towards La Vanilla plantation, to discover the wonderful history of bourbon vanilla in the heart of an authentic Creole field. Then you join the Salazie Caldeira, where waterfalls and sources offer an enchanting spectacle. Stop in front of the famous veil of the Bride, the most beautiful waterfall of the island.

Our suggestion: Lunch at Le Jardin d’heva, traditional Creole table.
After lunch in the afternoon we suggest a visit of the Folio house and its beautiful orchid garden.

Check-in at Le Juliette Dodu with dinner at your own expense.
Overnight at Le Juliette Dodu.

Day 3: Hell bourg / Salazie / Piton de la fournaise/ St Pierre

Check-out after breakfast.

Early departure to Le Piton de la Fournaise, the active volcano of the island. Before you get there, you walk past the house of the volcano museum on the Piton de la Fournaise, and then take the forest road to the volcano and the sand plain, a lunar landscape that catches your eye.
At Le Pas de Bellecombe you stand gaping at the Volcano and its first craters. The road to the volcano will amaze you.

Our suggestion: Lunch at Le Bardot, a traditional creole restaurant.
After lunch, you will take the road to St Pierre, the capital of the south.

Check-in and overnight at Le Battant des lames sup. with dinner at your own expense.

Day 4: St Pierre / wild south / lava road / St Pierre

Breakfast.

Early departure to the wild south and the lava road. Situated in the southeast corner of Reunion Island, Piton de la Fournaise is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Erupting for the first time about 50,000 years ago, records note that this basaltic shield volcano has erupted nearly 180 times since such eruptions were first recorded in 1640. The most recent occurred in 2015. You will discover all the different sceneries created by the eruptions those last years.

Our suggestion: Lunch at Le Baril, a traditional creole restaurant.
After lunch, you will take the road to St Pierre, the capital of the south.

Overnight Le Battant des lames sup. with dinner at your own expense.

Day 5: St Pierre / Cilaos

Check-out after breakfast.

Early departure to Cilaos which is one of the most scenic drives on Reunion Island. The road follows a canyon and rises thousands of feet to about 40 kilometres before finally arriving at Cilaos in the Cirque de Cilaos valley. In this decor with bright colours or surrounded in mist, life flows quietly and is charming. Take the direction of La Roche merveilleuse, natural viewpoint with panoramic views of the Cilaos village.

Our suggestion: Lunch at Le Sentier or Le Petit Randonneur, both traditional creole restaurants.
In the afternoon, take a nice walk in the village or go for longer walk to Le Canyon de fleur jaune.

Check-in and overnight at Le Vieux Cep with dinner at your own expense.

Day 6: Cilaos / St Gilles

Check out after Breakfast

Enjoy the beginning of the day at Cilaos and take the road to the west coast just before lunch. After leaving the road of Cilaos on the way to St Louis we suggest you to stop at la saga du rum museum that tells the story of the sugar cane on the island, ending with a rum tasting (all in moderation of course!) At Etang-Sale, you will discover one of the two black sand beaches of the island along the road and we suggest you enjoy a nice pain bouchon with a dodo (local sandwich and beer) on the beach.
In the afternoon, take the road to St Gilles and the village of Hermitage where your hotel is located.

Check-in and overnight at Ermitage Boutik Hotel with dinner at your own expense.

Day 7: Saint-Gilles

Breakfast. Enjoy your free time at leisure.

Our suggestion: Take a helicopter ride above the island. The best scenery on Reunion is in its wild interior, which features 3000-foot deep canyons and calderas, waterfalls, and a volcano. While there are some roads that can take you into much of the island’s interior, other parts of it are only reachable by hiking. An alternative for those of us that don’t have the time or ability to do long, multi-day hikes is to take a helicopter ride above the island.

Overnight at Ermitage Boutik Hotel with dinner at your own expense.

Day 8: Saint-Gilles / St Denis / South Africa

Check-out after Breakfast.
Early departure to the airport where you will leave your car rental and take your flight back to South Africa.
